Additionally, within thirty days of this initial physical, a developmental, behavioral, and emotional screening, including early periodic screening, diagnosis, and treatment services, must be conducted. These screenings are to follow the periodicity schedule set by the American Academy of Pediatrics as long as the child remains in care, and may be performed by a qualified mental health professional or a primary care physician using a standardized tool. If screenings indicate a concern, a comprehensive assessment must be completed within sixty days of the child entering custody. The bill also clarifies that "investigation" involves collecting oral evidence, not just verbal.
