This bill amends Missouri law to expand the definition of illegal weapons possession by adding high-capacity magazines to the list of prohibited items. Specifically, it defines a "high-capacity magazine" as any device, such as a magazine, belt, drum, or feed strip, that can hold more than ten rounds of ammunition or can be easily modified to do so. The bill also clarifies that certain exceptions to weapons possession offenses, such as those related to official duties, lawful business transactions, or public displays, now apply to the newly included high-capacity magazines. The penalties for possessing these items are also adjusted, with violations related to explosive weapons, certain substances, gas guns, exploding bullets, and high-capacity magazines being classified as a class D felony, while possessing knuckles or certain other weapons in violation of federal law remains a class A misdemeanor.
