This bill enacts a new section, 73-10-32.7, requiring the Division of Water Resources, in collaboration with the Division of Drinking Water, to conduct a study on water loss by public water systems, which are defined as entities providing water to the public. This study will involve compiling and analyzing water loss estimates from data collected between January 1, 2015, and December 31, 2024, providing an overview of industry water loss practices, and making recommendations to improve data reliability and reduce actual water losses. The Division of Water Resources must report its findings to the Legislative Water Development Commission by October 31, 2026. Additionally, the bill repeals the study section on July 1, 2027, and repeals a requirement for reporting to an interim committee on January 1, 2027, with most provisions taking effect on May 6, 2026, and some related to repeal dates taking effect on July 1, 2026.
