This bill modifies motor vehicle inspection requirements by changing the criteria for when certain vehicles need to be inspected. Specifically, for motor vehicles primarily used for business, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, autocycles, buses, and commercial vehicles licensed for over twelve thousand pounds, the bill now requires them to be model year 2013 or newer and have less than one hundred fifty thousand miles on the odometer to be exempt from certain odometer information retention requirements by the director of revenue. For other motor vehicles, the exemption from odometer information retention also now applies to those that are model year 2013 or newer and have less than one hundred fifty thousand miles. Additionally, the bill adjusts the biennial inspection requirement for motor vehicles, exempting those with less than one hundred fifty thousand miles and that are model year 2013 or newer, with exceptions for prior salvage vehicles and those engaged in interstate commerce. The bill also clarifies that violations of these inspection requirements are considered infractions, which are minor offenses.
