This bill authorizes the Washington State Department of Health to seek approval from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to become an accrediting body for opioid treatment programs, following federal regulations outlined in 42 C.F.R. Part 8. If approved, the department will be responsible for accrediting these programs and will establish fees, including initial and renewal charges, through formal rules. These fees will be set at amounts sufficient to cover the department's expenses for providing these accreditation services. Additionally, the bill permits the department to use funds from the opioid abatement settlement account to help cover the costs of these accreditation services.
