This bill amends the Intergenerational Care Facility Incentive Grant Program by expanding eligibility for grants to include both nonprofit and proprietary facilities, whereas previously the program only specified certain types of facilities. The bill also clarifies that grants can be used for startup or expansion costs related to providing childcare within nursing homes or assisted-living facilities, which are defined by specific statutes (section 38-2414 for nursing homes and section 71-5903 for assisted-living facilities). Importantly, facilities applying for or receiving these grants are not required to own or operate the childcare services themselves. The bill also changes the grant award criteria from a priority system for rural communities to awarding grants based on the date of application, while still allowing for priority to be given to rural communities for applications filed on the same date. The original section of law governing these grants is repealed and replaced by these new provisions.
