This bill amends Mississippi Code Section 25-31-10 to add two additional full-time criminal investigators to the 22nd Circuit Court District, increasing their total number from two to three. Criminal investigators are individuals appointed by district attorneys to assist in criminal investigations. The bill also specifies that the current provisions regarding the number of criminal investigators will be in effect until January 1, 2031, after which a slightly modified version of the section will apply, though the change for the 22nd Circuit Court District is made permanent by this amendment. The bill also reiterates existing provisions regarding investigator compensation, training, and the prohibition of district attorneys or their assistants from taking private employment related to matters investigated by these criminal investigators. This act will become effective on July 1, 2026.
