This bill modifies existing law regarding how sales tax is handled in cash transactions by allowing vendors to round the total sale amount to the nearest five cents, specifically rounding down amounts ending in $0.01, $0.02, $0.06, or $0.07, and rounding up amounts ending in $0.03, $0.04, $0.08, or $0.09. This rounding is only permitted for cash transactions and applies only to the final total after all items, discounts, and taxes are calculated, and it does not affect the amount of tax that must still be remitted to the department of revenue. The bill also clarifies that this rounding does not apply to transactions paid by credit, debit, or other noncash methods, and that vendors acting in good faith and in compliance with these rounding provisions will not be in violation of any state or local laws or regulations.
