This bill modifies provisions related to how vendors handle cash transactions by allowing them to round the total sale amount to the nearest five cents, specifically by rounding down amounts ending in $0.01, $0.02, $0.06, or $0.07, and rounding up amounts ending in $0.03, $0.04, $0.08, or $0.09, with this rounding only applied to the final total after all items, discounts, and taxes are calculated. This rounding option is exclusively for cash transactions and does not apply to payments made by credit, debit, or other noncash methods, and the full amount of tax due, as determined by tax brackets, must still be remitted to the department of revenue regardless of the customer's payment method. The bill also clarifies that vendors acting in good faith and in compliance with these rounding provisions will not be in violation of any state or local laws, regulations, or standards.
