This bill modifies the requirements for public school teachers who have achieved continuing contract status, meaning they have a contract that continues in effect as long as they maintain good behavior and competent service. Previously, either the teacher or the school board had to provide written notice by June 15 if they did not wish to continue the contract for the following school year. However, this bill changes the law so that only the teacher is required to give written notice of noncontinuation by June 15; if the teacher fails to do so, their contract automatically continues for the next year, including any salary increases based on local pay scales.
