This resolution commends the Mississippi chapters of The Links, Incorporated, for their dedicated efforts to combat hunger, improve maternal health, and address food insecurity across the state. Recognizing high rates of food insecurity and maternal deaths, especially among Black, rural, and low-income populations in Mississippi, these chapters have implemented initiatives like the Emerald Plate Initiative to enhance food access and justice. They advocate for strengthening the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a federal program that provides food assistance, and support Black farmers who face systemic barriers. The resolution also outlines specific legislative actions the Mississippi chapters urge the state legislature to take, including expanding SNAP access, investing in nutrition incentive programs, accepting Summer EBT funds to reduce childhood hunger, supporting Black farmers, building sustainable food networks, incentivizing community gardens, passing "Healthy School Meals for All" legislation, and establishing a Food Security & Equity Task Force.
