This bill, amending the Nebraska Political Accountability and Disclosure Act, establishes a limit on how much money individuals can contribute to candidate committees (groups supporting a specific candidate) and ballot question committees (groups supporting or opposing a ballot measure). Starting January 1, 2027, no person can contribute more than $3,500 to a single candidate or ballot question committee within an election period, which is defined as the calendar year of the election. If a committee receives more than this amount from a single person, they must refund the excess within ten days and report the transaction. This limit does not apply to a candidate contributing their own personal funds to their own campaign. Furthermore, beginning January 1, 2029, and every two years thereafter, this $3,500 contribution limit will be adjusted to account for inflation, based on changes in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers, and rounded to the nearest $100. The bill also repeals the original section of law that is being amended.
