This bill requires motor carriers that operate charter buses, which are defined as buses transporting groups of people for compensation under a single contract for a specific trip, to conduct pre-trip safety briefings for passengers. These briefings must inform passengers about the mandatory use of safety belts if their seats are equipped with them and meet established standards. The bill also clarifies that this requirement applies to charter buses manufactured both before and after November 28, 2016, as long as they are equipped with approved safety belts. Violations of these safety belt requirements will result in fines as outlined in section 1229-c of the vehicle and traffic law.
