AI Summary

This bill allows individuals whose driver's licenses have been suspended for failing to comply with child support orders to apply for a "hardship license," which is a special type of driver's license. To obtain this hardship license, individuals must prove to a chancery court that the suspension of their full driving privileges would negatively impact their ability to maintain employment. The court's decision to grant a hardship license requires a recommendation from the Mississippi Department of Human Services, which is an agency responsible for child support enforcement. This hardship license will look different from a regular driver's license, will cost $25, and will be valid for four years. Importantly, individuals holding a hardship license will only be permitted to drive to and from work and to religious services, and they will not be allowed to operate commercial motor vehicles. The bill also makes conforming changes to existing Mississippi laws regarding driver's license fees and terms.
