This bill, known as the Mississippi Health Care Security and Promotion Act of 2026, directs the Division of Medicaid to seek federal waivers from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to expand Medicaid eligibility. Specifically, it mandates applications for a waiver to cover individuals with incomes at or below 100% of the federal poverty level, and a Section 1115 waiver to extend coverage to uninsured individuals with incomes between 101% and 200% of the federal poverty level, offering them either an individual qualified health insurance plan or premium assistance for employer-sponsored insurance. The bill also outlines provisions for continuous enrollment, integration of services, and specifies that if federal approval is not obtained by December 31, 2027, Medicaid eligibility will expand to include all populations and essential health benefits as defined by the Affordable Care Act of 2010.
