This bill, known as the Baby Dre Gun Safety Act, amends existing Kentucky law to enhance firearm safety for children by defining a "securely locked container" as a fully enclosed and locked receptacle, excluding a vehicle's glove compartment unless it can be manually locked. It also creates a new law prohibiting the unlawful storage of a firearm, making it a crime for someone to recklessly leave a firearm accessible to a minor without it being in a securely locked container, temporarily inoperable by a safety device, or carried on their person. This offense is classified as a Class B misdemeanor, but escalates to a Class A misdemeanor if a minor uses the firearm to cause physical injury or death. An exception, or affirmative defense, is provided if the minor obtained the firearm through an unlawful entry into the premises or vehicle where it was stored.
