This bill creates a new crime called parentage fraud, which will be a Class B misdemeanor, meaning it's a less serious criminal offense. Under this new law, someone commits parentage fraud if they try to legally make another person the parent of a child in their care, knowing or having reason to know that person is not the child's biological parent, with the specific intent to either take away property from that person or stop the child's actual biological parent from having rights to the child. However, this law will not apply in certain situations, such as when the child was conceived through rape or incest, if the child is being or has been adopted, or if the person being falsely identified as the parent was married to the offender at the time of the offense.
