This bill amends existing law to allow dependent, neglected, or abused youth, who are in the custody of the cabinet (meaning the state's child welfare agency), to request an extension or reinstatement of their commitment or custody beyond the age of 18, up to the age of 21, to receive transitional living support. Previously, this extension was limited, and this change expands the ability for eligible youth to opt in or out of extended commitment up to three times before they turn 20 years old, and the court can grant extensions even if the cabinet's concurrence happens after the youth turns 20. The bill also clarifies that the juvenile session of the District Court or the family division of the Circuit Court can handle these cases.
