This bill refines pregnancy-related accommodations by clarifying requirements for written certification from a healthcare professional for certain accommodations, specifically excluding limits on lifting over 17 pounds from this requirement, and also prohibits the disclosure of certain types of identifying personal information related to employees or applicants who have filed complaints, requested assistance, or participated in investigations under the pregnancy accommodation law (RCW 49.92 RCW). The bill adds a new section to the Public Records Act (RCW 42.56 RCW) to make records maintained by the Department of Labor and Industries confidential if they reveal an individual's identity or personal information, such as their name, address, contact details, photograph, or medical information related to pregnancy or childbirth, with specific exceptions for disclosure to the employer when necessary for investigation, to public employees, in legal proceedings, or to the complainant themselves. This legislation aims to protect the privacy of individuals seeking or utilizing pregnancy accommodations while ensuring employers can obtain necessary information for reasonable accommodations, and it will take effect on January 1, 2027.
