Bill Summary
AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to requiring local social services districts to provide luggage to children in foster care
AI Summary
This bill requires local social services districts to provide luggage, defined as a durable suitcase, duffel bag, backpack, or similar reusable container that is new or in new-like condition, to children in foster care who do not have appropriate luggage of their own. The bill also allows these districts to provide replacement luggage at their discretion if a child's luggage is lost, stolen, or damaged. Importantly, any expenditures made by these districts for this luggage will be eligible for state reimbursement through the foster care block grant.
