This bill expands the definition of assault in the third degree to include causing or attempting to cause physical injury to a healthcare provider within a jail, penitentiary, or other correctional or detention facility, and also adds jailers, deputy jailers, and correctional officers employed by local detention centers, correctional facilities, or regional jails to the list of public safety employees eligible for peer support counseling programs, which are designed to provide confidential counseling to individuals who have experienced emotionally traumatic events in their line of work.
