This bill creates a new legal pathway in Mississippi state courts for individuals who experience sexual harassment in the workplace, defining sexual harassment as unwanted sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other physical conduct of a sexual nature that is already prohibited by federal law. This means that if someone is subjected to such behavior while employed, they can now sue in state court to seek remedies, including financial compensation for damages, and importantly, this right to sue cannot be taken away by any employment contract or agreement that requires an employee to waive their right to legal action as a condition of being hired or continuing their employment. The bill is set to become effective on July 1, 2026.
