This bill amends Section 29-17-4 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 to increase the spending authority for repair, renovation, and improvement projects at state institutions of higher learning (colleges and universities) and community and junior colleges. Previously, the maximum spending limit for any single project was $1,000,000, but this bill raises that limit to $10,000,000. These projects can include improvements to utility infrastructure, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, as well as the replacement of furniture and equipment that are already inventoried by the state. The bill also clarifies that the "State Agency Repair and Renovation Fund" is a special fund where money does not lapse at the end of the fiscal year, and interest earned is added to the fund. This change aims to provide these educational institutions with greater flexibility and resources to maintain and upgrade their facilities.
