This bill, titled the "On-the-Job Workforce Training Act," amends Florida's minimum wage law to allow employers to exempt certain employees from state minimum wage requirements under specific conditions. It introduces the concept of a "waiver" where an employee can voluntarily opt out of receiving the state minimum wage for work-based learning opportunities like internships or pre-apprenticeships, provided these opportunities do not exceed nine months or two full-time semesters. For minor employees, a parent or guardian must also sign the waiver. Employers are prohibited from coercing employees into signing these waivers, and the waiver is only valid for nine months, after which the employee must be paid at least the state minimum wage.
