This bill amends Mississippi Code Section 93-1-17 to allow retired judges from the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, circuit court, chancery court, or county court to solemnize marriages, meaning they can legally perform wedding ceremonies. This expands the authority previously granted to active judges of these courts, as well as ministers, rabbis, other spiritual leaders, justice court judges, and members of boards of supervisors, who are already permitted to solemnize marriages within the state. The act will become effective on July 1, 2026.
