This bill requires that when someone calls the statewide central register of child abuse and maltreatment to report suspected abuse or maltreatment, they must provide their name and contact information. The central register, which is a system for receiving and tracking reports of child abuse and neglect, generally cannot transmit a report to local child protective services for investigation unless this information is provided, with an exception for callers who are reasonably believed to be children under eighteen. If a caller declines to provide their information, they will be connected with a supervisor who will explain caller confidentiality protections and inform them about available support services and the legal consequences of knowingly making false reports. The bill also amends existing law to ensure these new requirements take effect on the same date as a related 2025 law concerning the administration of the central register.
