This bill amends existing Nebraska law regarding residency requirements for in-state tuition and fees at state postsecondary educational institutions. It modifies the criteria for establishing residency, which is crucial for determining tuition rates. The bill removes provisions related to aliens applying for lawful status and those who graduated from Nebraska high schools after residing in the state for at least three years and intending to become permanent residents. It also removes provisions for individuals qualifying for national service educational awards. The bill retains and renumbers existing criteria, including those for individuals of legal age with a bona fide intention to make Nebraska their permanent residence, minors whose parents have established residency, individuals married to Nebraska residents, staff members and their dependents at state educational institutions, active duty military personnel and their dependents, and members of the Nebraska National Guard. The original section of law is repealed and replaced by these amended provisions.
