This bill amends the Parenting Act in Nebraska to require courts to consider credible research demonstrating that children experience increased intellectual and social growth when they have equal access to both parents when determining the best interests of a child in custody and parenting arrangements. This addition is made to existing factors that courts already consider, such as the child's safety, emotional growth, health, stability, and the wishes of the child, and it replaces a previous provision that referred to evidence of abuse. The bill also repeals the original section of the law, meaning this new provision will be the operative language going forward.
