Permits the bureau to establish rules related to the use of intelligent speed assistance devices and to approve vendors of intelligent speed assistance devices.

AI Summary

This bill establishes the definition of an "intelligent speed assistance device" as an aftermarket device that limits a vehicle's speed to the posted speed limit, and allows courts to mandate the use of such devices for individuals convicted of crimes involving vehicle operation, as a condition of specialized driving privileges or probation, and even as a condition of bail for certain offenses. The bill requires courts to notify the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) when an intelligent speed assistance device is ordered, and the BMV will then inform the individual that they cannot operate a vehicle without one. Tampering with or soliciting someone to tamper with these devices is made a Class B misdemeanor, and the BMV is empowered to create rules for their use and approve vendors, with vendors responsible for reporting any issues and the individual generally responsible for costs unless deemed indigent.
