This concurrent resolution urges the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), the state agency responsible for roads, to rename a specific section of U.S. Highway 12. This portion of U.S. 12 runs between the borders of Michigan and Illinois and would be officially designated as the "Chief Marshal James R. Kautz Memorial Highway" in honor of James Rodger Kautz. Chief Marshal Kautz was a Vietnam War veteran who served the town of Long Beach, Indiana, and tragically died in the line of duty on November 4, 1997, after being struck by a vehicle while working at the scene of a traffic accident on U.S. 12. The resolution also directs the Secretary of the Senate to send copies of this request to the Commissioner of INDOT.
