This bill amends county law to allow local health officials to request copies of death-related reports and records, such as autopsy and toxicology reports, for official purposes of their health district. This expansion of authority means that a local health officer can request these documents if a death occurs within their jurisdiction, or if a death occurred outside their district but the deceased was a resident who sustained an injury or exposure that caused or contributed to their death, received significant medical care for the condition leading to death, or was pronounced dead or found within that district. Coroners, coroner's physicians, or medical examiners must provide these reports within three days if the death occurred within the requesting official's district, or within seven days if it occurred outside the district. If the request is for a death outside their district, the local health officer must also notify the health official of the district where the death occurred and maintain a log of such requests.
