This rounding applies only to the cash portion of a transaction and does not affect the actual sales price, the amount of tax owed or collected, or any other fees, and customers can still choose to pay the exact total price if they have the precise legal tender (coins and currency of the United States). The bill also clarifies that this rounding practice is a statewide concern that supersedes any local government rules and that any rounding adjustments made under this law will not be considered a violation of consumer protection laws or a surcharge. Furthermore, it specifies that taxes and fees must be calculated on the pre-rounded amount, and that state agencies can also use this rounding method when pennies are unavailable, provided that taxes and fees are remitted based on the exact amount.
