This bill establishes the Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education Study Group, a group tasked with examining the opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence (AI) in Florida's state universities and colleges, covering areas like academic instruction, research, and student behavior. The study group will be composed of faculty from various disciplines, representatives from educational boards, an AI or computer science expert, a representative from the Southern Regional Education Board, a representative from the Division of Florida Colleges, and a student representative. Its duties include investigating AI's impact on academic integrity, exploring its applications in teaching and learning, assessing privacy and data security concerns, considering safeguards for academic freedom, identifying training needs for faculty and staff, reviewing best practices, and recommending model policies for the ethical and effective use of AI. The group must also gather input from various stakeholders and submit a report with its findings and recommendations to the Governor and legislative leaders by December 1, 2026, after which the study group will expire on December 31, 2026, with the act taking effect on July 1, 2026.
