This bill, effective July 1, 2026, amends existing Vermont law to require employers to grant employees' requests for flexible working arrangements, which are defined as intermediate or long-term changes to an employee's regular work schedule, such as adjusting hours, changing start and end times, working from home, or job-sharing, but not including vacation or routine shift scheduling. Employers must consider these requests in good faith and grant them unless the arrangement is inconsistent with business operations, which includes factors like increased costs, negative impacts on employee morale, difficulty meeting customer demand, inability to reorganize work or recruit staff, detrimental effects on business quality or performance, insufficient work during proposed hours, or planned structural business changes.
