This bill, titled the "Military Police to Peace Officer Pathway Act," establishes an alternative pathway for honorably discharged U.S. armed forces veterans who served as military police officers to become certified peace officers in Arizona, beginning January 1, 2027. The Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) board will be responsible for creating this pathway, which will accept an applicant's existing military police training and experience towards Arizona's POST requirements, allow for an abbreviated program focusing on Arizona laws and procedures, and require applicants to pass a POST-approved certification exam while still meeting all current standards for moral character, medical and psychological fitness, and background checks. The bill also mandates that the POST board process applications for this alternative pathway within sixty days of receipt.
