This bill appropriates $3,000,000 from the state general fund for fiscal year 2026-2027 to the department of health services to create and manage a grant program. This program will help rural hospitals, defined as licensed hospitals in counties with fewer than one million residents, cover the expenses of purchasing and installing radiation protection systems in cardiac catheterization procedure rooms where real-time x-ray imaging is performed. A radiation protection system is defined as shielding that protects against ionizing radiation, offers protection equivalent to or better than a .25 millimeter lead-equivalent apron, and includes real-time dosimetry to track radiation exposure to healthcare professionals during medical procedures involving ionizing radiation.
