This bill establishes new procedures for health profession regulatory boards in Arizona when they suspect a health professional may be unable to practice safely or competently. Specifically, before a board can vote to require a psychological or psychiatric evaluation, they must provide the health professional with at least fourteen days' notice, including a summary of the complaint or action that led to the consideration of an evaluation. The health professional then has the right to submit a written response and to appear at a hearing to discuss the matter. If the board ultimately decides to require an evaluation, they must give the professional a copy of the completed evaluation, and if no disciplinary action is taken as a result, the board will reimburse the professional for any costs associated with the evaluation. This new process does not prevent a board from immediately suspending a license if necessary, as allowed by existing law.
