This bill amends existing law concerning social worker licensure by creating alternative pathways to obtaining a license, specifically for licensed independent clinical social workers. Previously, a licensed independent clinical social worker (a professional who provides mental health services) was required to pass an approved examination. This bill introduces an alternative where, instead of taking an exam, an applicant can successfully complete "enhanced supervision" with an approved supervisor, who attests to the applicant's skill and safety to practice. This enhanced supervision can count towards the required 3,000 hours of experience for this type of license. The bill also removes the requirement for a licensed advanced social worker to pass an examination, focusing instead on supervised experience and continuing education.
