This bill modifies existing Virginia law regarding the loss of driving privileges for delinquent children. Previously, courts were required to deny a child's driving privileges if they failed to comply with school attendance and meeting requirements. This bill grants courts discretion, allowing them to *choose* whether to order the denial of driving privileges in such truancy cases, rather than mandating it. Additionally, if a court orders the denial of a child's driver's license for any of the specified offenses (including alcohol, firearm, and drug offenses, as well as truancy), the bill now requires the child to surrender their license, which the court will physically hold during the period of denial. This change is a recommendation from the Committee on District Courts.
