This bill requires Maryland's public colleges and universities, excluding the University of Maryland Global Campus, to develop and post a plan by October 1, 2026, outlining support for pregnant and parenting students, which includes referrals to government assistance programs like WIC and childcare subsidies, adoption services, and on-campus and off-campus health resources. Additionally, the Maryland Higher Education Commission will collect data from these institutions on students' parental status, including details about their children's ages and their caregiving responsibilities, and this parental status information will be added to the definition of "student data" that the Commission can share with the Maryland Longitudinal Data System, a state database used for educational research and policy. The bill also mandates that the Commission report annually to legislative committees on the collected parental status data, starting September 1, 2027.
