This bill mandates that every local law enforcement vehicle in Maryland must be equipped with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), which is a medical device cleared by the Federal Food and Drug Administration that can detect life-threatening heart rhythms and deliver an electrical shock to restore a normal heartbeat, either automatically or with operator intervention. Furthermore, local law enforcement agencies are required to ensure that these AEDs remain in proper working order. This new requirement will take effect on October 1, 2026.
