Law enforcement agencies across the state must then adopt a policy that aligns with this model, affirming their commitment to transparency and accountability, and acknowledging that generalized fear is not sufficient justification for officers to wear face coverings. The bill also specifies that a law enforcement officer violating this policy is guilty of a misdemeanor, facing potential jail time or fines, and will waive any immunity in civil lawsuits related to the violation. This provision does not apply to officers actively engaged in undercover operations. The bill is set to take effect on October 1, 2026.
