This bill allows the Maryland Department of Education to create a system for primary and secondary educators to voluntarily indicate their veteran status on their professional licenses and public profiles. If the Department establishes this process, educators applying for a license will be able to provide proof of their veteran status, such as a DD Form 214 (a military separation document), and consent to having this status noted on their license and profile. They will also consent to be contacted by state agencies about potential veteran benefits. If an educator provides the necessary documentation and consent, the Department will add the veteran notation to their license or public profile and, upon request from an executive branch agency, electronically share relevant information about the educator, following all applicable laws. The Department is authorized to create regulations to implement these changes, and the bill is set to take effect on October 1, 2026.
