This bill, the Military Family Inclusion Act, makes several changes to the membership of various Maryland boards and councils to ensure better representation, particularly for military families. Specifically, it adds one family caregiver of a service-disabled veteran to the Maryland Commission on Caregiving, which advises on caregiving services. It also adds a member of the House of Delegates and a member of the Senate as ex officio trustees to the Maryland Trust Fund Board of Trustees, which manages a fund for veterans. For the Maryland Veterans Commission, which advocates for veterans, the bill removes a requirement that new organizations must be congressionally chartered to be represented and instead adds a seat for a representative of an organization representing military families, while also allowing for the removal of an organization's seat if they fail to appoint a representative for two consecutive years. Finally, it adds one youth representative to the Maryland Youth Advisory Council who has an immediate family member serving in the military. These changes are set to take effect on October 1, 2026.
