This bill allows school districts to create plans to notify parents or guardians if a student is involved in harassment, intimidation, or bullying, or if a student makes a threat of suicide. If a school district notifies parents about a suicide threat, they must also provide resources on suicide prevention and crisis intervention, including how to get a professional assessment, limit a student's access to firearms and medications, securely store firearms and medications, and request a free firearm safe storage device from a newly established grant fund. This "firearm safe storage grant fund," managed by the Department of Administration, will be used to purchase and distribute devices like lock boxes or safes to school districts and firearm safety programs at no cost, and can be funded through appropriations, grants, or donations. Additionally, a council will advise school districts on appropriate materials to provide to parents in these situations.
