This bill authorizes a new retirement benefit for certain members employed by Nassau County, specifically those with titles such as correction recruit, correction officer, correction corporal, correction sergeant, correction lieutenant, or correction captain. Under this bill, these members will be eligible to retire after completing thirty years of service and will receive a retirement allowance equal to sixty percent of their final average salary, which is the average of their highest earnings over a specified period. This is an increase from the previous benefit which provided a retirement allowance equal to one-half (or fifty percent) of their final average salary after twenty-five years of service. The bill also clarifies that Nassau County will bear the costs associated with implementing these changes and that these costs can be spread out over ten years. The provisions of this act apply to all members who retire on or after the date the bill becomes law.
