This bill mandates that school districts in Mississippi establish policies for scheduling extracurricular activities to ensure students attend all regular classes before participating and are returned to school by 10:30 p.m. on school nights, which are defined as the nights before any day with academic instruction, including any make-up days. This policy must be followed by all parties responsible for scheduling, including any third-party organizations hired by the district. However, these scheduling requirements do not apply to playoff or championship games, statewide competitions where the school is a participant, or activities that involve prearranged overnight stays. Any instances of noncompliance, unless exempted, must be documented with details and reasons, and school districts are required to report these occurrences quarterly to the State Department of Education, which will then compile and submit a summary to the education committees of the Mississippi House of Representatives and Senate. The State Department of Education will also develop rules and regulations to implement and enforce these provisions, which will take effect on July 1, 2026.
