Bill Summary

School board chairmen and vice-chairmen; additional annual salary; amount. Permits any school board to pay (i) the chairman of the school board an additional annual salary not exceeding 30 percent of the base annual salary or $3,500, whichever is greater, and (ii) the vice-chairman of the school board an additional annual salary not exceeding 15 percent of the base annual salary or $1,750, whichever is greater. Current law caps school board chairmen's additional annual salary at $2,000 and is silent on additional annual salary amounts for school board vice-chairmen.

AI Summary

This bill proposes to increase the additional annual salary that school boards can pay to their chairmen and vice-chairmen. Currently, school board chairmen can receive an extra $2,000 per year, and there is no specific provision for additional salary for vice-chairmen. This bill would allow any school board to pay its chairman an additional annual salary of up to 30 percent of their base salary or $3,500, whichever is greater. It would also permit school boards to pay their vice-chairmen an additional annual salary of up to 15 percent of their base salary or $1,750, whichever is greater. These changes aim to provide greater flexibility and potentially higher compensation for these leadership roles within local school boards.
