This bill expands the authority of the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics, which serves as a central hub, or "clearinghouse," for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), also known as drones, and advanced air mobility (AAM), which refers to new forms of air transportation like air taxis. The department is now explicitly authorized to invest in and operate infrastructure, such as vertiports, necessary for integrating these technologies into the state's air transportation system, and can partner with cities, counties, tribal entities, and federal agencies for these purposes. Additionally, the department can now create statewide or regional command, control, and radar systems to support the safe integration of UAS and AAM, invest in publicly owned infrastructure, and collaborate with other states and industry groups to establish centers of excellence for these technologies, with the ability to create necessary rules to implement these expanded duties, and the bill will become effective on November 1, 2026.
