Bill Summary

This bill provides that career and technical education instructors are eligible for shared operational functions for purposes of supplementary weighting. Under current law, school districts that share certain operational functions with another political subdivision are assigned a supplementary weighting for each shared operational function in order to provide additional funding to increase student opportunities and redirect more resources to student programming. The bill adds career and technical education instructors to the list of positions that qualify for supplementary weighting when shared between a school district and another political subdivision for at least 20 percent of the school year. The bill provides that a school district that shares the operational function of a career and technical education instructor will receive a supplementary weighting of two pupils. The bill defines “career and technical education instructor” as a licensed teacher who holds a career and technical endorsement for grades 5 through 12, including in agriculture, family consumer sciences, industrial technology, business, or information technology, or an individual who holds a career and technical education authorization for grades 5 through 12.

AI Summary

This bill allows school districts to receive additional funding, known as supplementary weighting, when they share career and technical education instructors with other political subdivisions, such as other school districts or government entities, for at least 20 percent of the school year. This supplementary weighting is intended to provide extra financial resources to enhance student opportunities and programming. Specifically, a school district that shares a career and technical education instructor will be assigned a supplementary weighting equivalent to two pupils. A "career and technical education instructor" is defined as a licensed teacher with a special endorsement for grades 5 through 12 in fields like agriculture, family consumer sciences, industrial technology, business, or information technology, or an individual holding a career and technical education authorization for those grade levels. This provision expands upon existing law that already offers supplementary weighting for sharing other operational functions.
