Bill Summary

This bill relates to school districts that share the operational functions of a school resource officer. Current law provides that, through the budget year beginning July 1, 2034, a school district that shares with a political subdivision one or more operational functions in certain specified areas for at least 20 percent of the school year shall be assigned a supplementary weighting for each shared operational function. The purpose of the supplementary weighting is to provide additional funding to increase student opportunities and redirect more resources to student programming for school districts. Under current law, the supplementary weighting associated with a school resource officer is two pupils for the school budget years beginning on or after July 1, 2022, but before July 1, 2035. The bill increases the supplementary weighting associated with a school resource officer to four pupils. The bill applies July 1, 2026, for school budget years beginning on or after that date.

AI Summary

This bill increases the supplementary weighting, which is additional funding provided to school districts that share operational functions with other entities, for school resource officers. Currently, school districts that share a school resource officer's operational functions for at least 20% of the school year receive a weighting of two pupils. This bill, starting July 1, 2026, will increase that weighting to four pupils, aiming to provide more resources for student opportunities and programming.
